Makoplasty

South Florida Orthopaedics is proud to announce we now offer MAKOplasty®, an innovative new treatment option for those suffering with osteoarthritis of the knee that has not yet impacted the entire knee.  MAKOplasty® partial knee resurfacing is a minimally invasive knee surgery performed using robotic arm technology.

Typical MAKOplasty® patients share the following characteristics:

  • Knee pain with activity, usually on the inner knee, under the kneecap or isolated to the outer knee
  • Start up knee pain or stiffness when activities are initiated from a sitting position
  • Failure to respond to non-surgical treatments, injections or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication

During this procedure, the RIO® Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopedic System is used to resurface the diseased portions of the knee. By selectively targeting the portion of the knee that has been damaged by osteoarthritis, surgeons can resurface the damaged area without compromising the healthy bone and tissue surrounding it.  An implant is then secured in the joint to allow the knee to move smoothly again.

MAKOplasty® partial knee resurfacing can result in a more rapid recovery and shorter hospital stay than traditional knee replacement surgery, as well as a more natural feeling knee following surgery.

South Florida Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine is the largest orthopaedic practice serving patients along Florida’s Treasure Coast, including Ft. Pierce, Port St. Lucie, Jensen Beach, Stuart, Palm City, Hobe Sound, and Jupiter, as well as Indiantown and Okeechobee.
